Straight Razor Sets for Beginners or Experienced Shavers
I have created this section for anyone that would like to get started in the Art of Straight Razor Shaving. Everything you will need to get started is in this section. For those of you that are not familiar with what is needed you will find it much easier to find information on what is in the set than trying to figure out what should be in the set! Some basic facts are that when you have a Straight Razor you will always need a Strop to maintain the edge of the razor, you cannot have one without the other. Some ask well why do I need a Badger Brush and special shaving soap? Don't get it wrong, you can still you the soap in a can, but we highly suggest against that. There is not enough lubrication in the canned soap and why we call it Wet Shaving. The water hydrates the skin and softens the hairs to help the razor cut and prevent pulling the hairs during the shaving process. Ok Phil we understand all of this so far but why the little white stick in the sets or that Alum Block? The Septic Stick or the Alum Blocks (That come in all shapes and sizes) are the one products I pray you won't need! But it's better safe than sorry, as it is a matter of time before you get that little nick or cut. So run some cool water and wet the stick and lightly touch the area and BAM! The bleeding stops right away!! Goodbye to sticking that piece of tissue paper on the cut and waiting till the bleeding stops. Another important tip is to always hang your brush to dry, if you follow that tip the brush will last for many many years! I could go on for days and will stop myself here. Also remember that one of the best Forums for Straight Razor questions is Straight Razor Place, Members are very helpful and will do anything to make your introduction to this wonderful Art an amazing experience!
